Synopsis
Fox website:
"Set in 19th century Thailand, ANNA AND THE KING is the
true story of British governess Anna Leonowens, who is employed
by the King to look after his many children. Soon after she arrives
in this exotic country, Anna finds herself engaged in a battle
of wits with the strong-willed ruler."
Fox publicity release: "Anna and the King" is an epic tale
set in Thailand in the late 19th Century, and chronicles the
true life adventures of British governess Anna Leonowens, who
is hired by the King of Siam to educate his fifty-eight children.
The story is based on historical information and Leonowens' published
works."
Webmaster's note:
We object to the use of "true story". Anna was not
a governess and her story is largely a work of fiction. We have
asked Fox to change the words "true story" to "fictionalised
story". They replied saying that they didn't realise that
their website and publicity material differed so much. They promised
to make the change to the website straight away. However, no
sign of that so far.
